Spring Recreation Brochure On-Line

The Rec Room is now on-line!

(It requires Adobe Acrobat Reader®. Large PDF: 492KB)

Starting with this edition and all future editions, The Rec Room will no longer be mailed. As Denville moves into the future, we are being more fiscally responsible by saving printing and postage costs and, most importantly, by being more environmentally friendly.

On-Line Auction

Denville Township is now auctioning it's surplus on-line! Registration is free for bidders. Bids are open for two weeks when new items are posted. Be sure to check often for new items.

Many local governments are moving to on-line auctions, leaving behind the traditional one-day auction that bidders had to attend. GovDeals.com was chosen by Denville Township to make it easier for bidding to take place, and to make surplus equipment available to a far wider audience, with significant potential for increased revenue for the Township.

Recycling Rewards

According to the Daily Record, Thanks to Denville's recycling residents, the Morris County MUA will send Denville a check for $38,063, 13% of the total to be distributed to Morris County towns. Congratulations on recycling 2,473 tons!

Laurie Toth, New Third Ward Council Representative

Laurie Toth, one of three names sent to the Council from the Republican Committee to replace Ted Hussa, was selected as the Council's newest member at the January 15 Council meeting. Because Hussa is a Republican, he had to be replaced with a Republican. Toth will have to run for election this year, and if victorious, will serve out the remainder of Hussa's term. Toth has lived in Denville since 1988 and in Morris County since 1958.

Toth has a keen interest in history. She conceived, designed and currently maintains a databse of more than 2,200 US Army research and historical documents for seven departments. She has extensive computer application skills, and has designed many databases including Denville's parking license program. Employer of the Year in 2003 for Morris Hills HIgh School, she employed a student to catalogue her father's WWII papers, her Stars and Stripes collection, and more.

Toth is a graduate of Boston University, and is a member of American Mensa, Army Air forces Historical Association, Society of the Fifth Division, and St. Peter's Church in Morristown. Welcome Laurie.

Friday February 1 is "National Wear Red Day"

As stated by The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), heart disease is the #1 killer of women and only 55 percent of women, nationwide, are aware of it. The percentage of women dying from a heart attack is greater than that of men.

Read the article by Michelle McGlynn RN which describes coronary heart disease, risk factors for heart disease, signs and symptoms of a heart attack, common tests for detecting heart disease, and how to lower your risks.

Then, wear red on February 1 to raise awareness of this life-threatening disease.

Parking Restrictions at Municipal Building

The final phase of construction has begun at the municipal building. This phase includes removal of asbestos from the old municipal building, construction of curbs, sidewalks and parking areas, and the eventual demolition of the old structure.

Effective immediately, the parking area of the municipal building has been closed to all public and employee parking with the exception of a limited number of spaces for visitors to the police department.

Citizens arriving to do business at the municipal building should park along the curb on the east side of St. Mary’s Place, alongside St. Mary’s School, and enter the main doors of the municipal building. There is one handicapped parking space designated on St. Mary’s Place and two near the police department.

Citizens, who need assistance at the police department or need to pick up reports, can park on St. Mary’s Place and walk along Savage Road to the front of the police department or may use the emergency access driveway from the back of Riverview School and Gardner Field. Upon entering the parking lot, visitors should park nearest to Savage Road in the spaces marked "Visitor."

Citizens arriving for municipal court on Thursday mornings are advised to proceed to Gardner Field, the Savage Road Park and Ride lot, or Righter Avenue for parking.
